• She fought to lead Burma into a Democracy
• She was influenced by Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy for non-violence and also her Buddhist principles
• Her continuing to help Burma came with great personal sacrifice, hardly being able to see her family who lived in the UK
• She was offered freedom if she left the country, but refused knowing she wouldn't ever be allowed back, and spent in total 15 years under house arrest at various intervals
• Awarded Nobel Peace Prize
